Hi! I am Gabriella LaRose, but you can call me Ella. You might see my name on conference schedules or publications as Gabriella, but you can (and should!) feel free to call me Ella in correspondence. I also answer to Ms. LaRose. I use she/her/hers pronouns.
I am a third-year Philosophy Ph.D. candidate at the University of Arizona. I am currently a Russell J. and Dorothy S. Bilinski Fellow. From 2021-2022 I was a University Fellow at the U of A.
I mainly work on issues in aesthetics. More specifically, I work on issues relating to fiction and truth in fiction. My projects tend to exist at the intersection of aesthetics, metaphysics, semantics, and philosophy of language. I am also interested in logic, critical thinking, and pedagogy. I enjoy reading Spinoza and Leibniz, although this is not currently a research area for me.
My B.A. in Philosophy is from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I received my B.A. with a concentration in legal and political philosophy in May of 2019. I wrote a thesis through the Baker Scholar program on end-of-life care, advance directives, and medical nudging.
My M.A. in Philosophy is from Colorado State University. I received my M.A. in June of 2021. My thesis was supervised by Dr. Domenica Romagni and sought to provide a metaphysical answer to the appropriateness question in aesthetics.
Away from my armchair, I enjoy spending time with my three cats, knitting, taking photos on film, and snowboarding.
